The mission of Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation - Food Technology (Rio de Janeiro) is to provide feasible solutions for the sustainable development of Brazilian agribusiness through knowledge and technology generation and transfer. EMBRAPA is presently working on strategies for reduction of post-harvest losses and food quality and safety. EMBRAPA is present in almost all Brazilian states with 37 research centres. EMBRAPA Food Technology currently has research tasks dealing with collaborative studies on food safety, among them national programs on GMO product control. (Edna Oliveira)
