A comment turns into action

We took what the International Advisory Board said to heart at the Copenhagen General Meeting in 2010: Think about disseminating BIOTRACER beyond Europe. So, we applied for a BIOTRACER Symposium at the International Association for Food Protection's Annual Meeting in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 31 July-3 August 2011.
With help from Panos Skandamis (AUA), our International Collaboration Leader, the application was submitted and now we are the proud sponsors of a three-hour symposium at IAFP! The symposium was held 1 August.

This is a great honor and the BIOTRACER team's application was chosen from a pool of many applicants. Though the full story of biotracing cannot be told in a three-hour symposium, it is still a great way to disseminate results and expand awareness of biotracing as a discipline.
The IAFP is an organization of 3400 food safety professionals committed to advancing food safety worldwide by providing members with a forum to exchange information on protecting the global food supply.

IAFP 2011 will feature more than 50 symposia (see page 4 for BIOTRACER's), over 100 technical presentations, and nearly 500 poster presentations. This year marks the 100-year anniversary for IAFP.

The content of the symposium, Biotracing-Food safety through a marriage of microbiology and modelling, includes the following presentations:
Biotracing is an additional element of food safety: Martin Wagner
Biotracing supports decision making and risk management: Gary Barker
Biotracing makes good use of predictive microbiology: Panos Skandamis
Tools and data that drive biotracing: Jeffrey Hoorfar
Applying biotracing in a model food chain: Annemarie Pielaat
Tracing food pathogens-Reflections: John Sofos
