AFSG is a research institute for developing sustainable solutions in the fields of life sciences and food. The institute is part of Wageningen University and Research Centre. AFSG generates added value for the consumer of food and non-food products based on natural ingredients and resources. The Business Unit Quality in Chains (QUIC) has a mission to develop new concepts to improve product quality (shelf life, health) and chain performance for perishable products in post-harvest chains. Acquiring and utilising information is essential for today’s agro-production supply chains and food industry. Firstly, information exchange within the supply chain leads to lower costs and commercial advantage. Communication with other interested parties, such as government authorities and consumers can also take place more efficiently. Secondly, the knowledge chain does not always function in an optimal way. Potential sources of knowledge, both inside and outside the chain, are utilised insufficiently. Recent projects, carried out in cooperation with the business community, have led to a number of methods and microbial models that can quickly be implemented for innovative solutions in BIOTRACE IP.
